Trader Joe’s orange chicken for the win! 
My gym happens to share a parking lot with the best Chinese food place in my town, as well as a Wendy’s 🤦🏻‍♀️. I’m not really a fan of Chinese food (or Wendy’s), but smelling it every time I leave the gym was making me crave it. .
@feliciafitnesshealth mentioned this #traderjoesorangechicken and apparently it’s like their most popular item and now I know why. It’s super good and I was able to have it with rice, all for 500 calories. Way better than the normal takeout I would get. All I need is some broccoli to round it out, but I didn’t think ahead 😭

Still on vacay 😎 got applications to work on though. Been eating every and anything 🤣though my brain has sneakily been count cals by itself and telling me when I’m overdoing it 🙄 had a bad stomach bug today from some curry that was left unrefrigerated for too long. ☹️It was so yummy but now I’m paying for it 😭 sucks cause my nan made some of my favourite meals today, macaronie pie, pumpkin pie, fried plantain and stewed chicken 😩 as of waking I’ve had only 6 crackers and a glass of apple juice as I can’t eat any heavy foods that may irritate my stomach. This is torture! To be fair at least I enjoyed yesterday. In addition to the curry I enjoyed a vanilla ice cream cone with my nan, a slice of strawberry cheesecake (didn’t taste that good tbh so it may actually be a culprit in this stomach bug) and plenty toblerone mini chocolates my mom got in her travels 😋 If you couldn’t tell already I got a sweet tooth! 🦷 (especially for chocolate 🍫🤤) .

Y'all...I made carrot fries and they are SO good! 
Peel carrots. Cut in half long ways. Then cut again long ways. Cut into fry length. Season with a little olive oil (maybe a tsp), paprika, black pepper, onion powder, garlic powder. Bake on a baking sheet at 425 for 15-20 minutes, stirring about half way through. You can eat the whole thing for 160 calories. 
I made a dipping sauce out of 1/4 cup nonfat plain greek yogurt, a squirt of djon mustard, paprika, lots of chili powder, garlic powder, onion powder, black pepper. 38 calories for all of it. 
I had half of the fries 80 calories, half of the dipping sauce 19 calories, a Mushroom Risotto Dr. Praegers burger 130 calories (Meijer), 1/2 cup spinach for 3 calories, and yellow mustard 0 calories. Total of 232 calories!

The previous post helped us understand that a calorie deficit is all that matters for weight loss. Now, let's clarify what it means to be in a calorie deficit.

You generate a calorie deficit when you expend more energy (from living, breathing, and activity) than you take in (from food and drink). When this happens, your body pulls from energy stores in your fat cells to make up the difference. This reduction in body fat stores is what causes weight loss.

Let's examine the two sides of this equation (or inequality, for you math nerds). Side 1: Energy expenditure. You expend energy from living, breathing, and doing stuff.

The base amount of energy required for living and breathing is your basal metabolic rate (BMR). BMR varies from person to person depending on age, gender, muscle mass, and genetics. The Rock burns more energy than your grandma. Makes sense, right?

You expend additional energy from physical activity, whether that’s standing in line at a coffee shop, walking to class, lifting weights, running around with your kids, or playing Quidditch.

The sum of your BMR and additional energy from physical activity is known as Total Daily Energy Expenditure (TDEE). This number is important because it's what you will use to set your calorie target for weight loss.

Side 2: Energy intake. You take in energy from eating and drinking.

Just like every item in a store comes with a price tag, every item you put in your mouth has an energy price tag (which can be measured in calories). These two factors—how much energy you expend and how much you take in—are responsible for whether or not you are in a calorie deficit, and therefore, whether or not you will lose weight.

INGREDIENTS
For the broccoli rice
4 cups broccoli florets about 2 small crowns
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 garlic clove, minced
1 green onion thinly sliced, white and green parts separated
For the Sauce
¼ cup hoisin sauce
¼ cup water
1 tablespoons cornstarch
1 tablespoon soy sauce
1 tablespoon toasted sesame seed oil
1 teaspoon fresh ginger, minced
For the beef
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 pound flank steak, thinly sliced across the grain
Salt and pepper, to taste
INSTRUCTIONS
1. To make the riced broccoli, process the broccoli florets in a blender or food processor until you get a riced texture. Heat a pan with olive oil on medium, add the garlic and the white parts of the green onions and fry until fragrant, about 1-2 minutes. Add the riced broccoli to the mixture and toss together until the broccoli slightly softens, about 2-4 minutes. Divide the broccoli between 4 bowls and wipe clean the pan with a paper towel
2. To make the sauce, whisk together the ingredients in a small bowl or a small blender. Set aside.
3. To cook the steak, season with salt and pepper. Then heat the pan used for broccoli rice with olive oil on medium-high. Place the steak strips on the pan in a single layer and cook for 1-2 minutes per side to brown each steak strip. You many need to cook in batches. Add the sauce to the steak and reduce the heat to low. Cook for an additional 3-5 minutes, stirring to coat and allowing the sauce to thicken.
4. Serve the steak on top of the riced broccoli, and garnish with the green parts of the green onions and red pepper flakes.

INGREDIENTS For the broccoli rice 4 cups broccoli florets about 2 small crowns 1 tablespoon olive oil 1 garlic clove, minced 1 green onion thinly sliced, white and green parts separated For the Sauce ¼ cup hoisin sauce ¼ cup water 1 tablespoons cornstarch 1 tablespoon soy sauce 1 tablespoon toasted sesame seed oil 1 teaspoon fresh ginger, minced For the beef 1 tablespoon olive oil 1 pound flank steak, thinly sliced across the grain Salt and pepper, to taste INSTRUCTIONS 1. To make the riced broccoli, process the broccoli florets in a blender or food processor until you get a riced texture. Heat a pan with olive oil on medium, add the garlic and the white parts of the green onions and fry until fragrant, about 1-2 minutes. Add the riced broccoli to the mixture and toss together until the broccoli slightly softens, about 2-4 minutes. Divide the broccoli between 4 bowls and wipe clean the pan with a paper towel 2. To make the sauce, whisk together the ingredients in a small bowl or a small blender. Set aside. 3. To cook the steak, season with salt and pepper. Then heat the pan used for broccoli rice with olive oil on medium-high. Place the steak strips on the pan in a single layer and cook for 1-2 minutes per side to brown each steak strip. You many need to cook in batches. Add the sauce to the steak and reduce the heat to low. Cook for an additional 3-5 minutes, stirring to coat and allowing the sauce to thicken. 4. Quinoa Shrimp Bowl 🥑

To all our non-meat eaters, this week’s recipe is for you (and anyone else who just loves good food). This fresh bowl filled with macro and micro nutrients is perfect for summer days! Give it a go ⬇️

I N S T R U C T I O N S 📝 
1. Preheat the oven to 400°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper. In a large bowl, toss the olive oil and kale together. Season with salt and pepper.
2. Arrange the kale in an even layer on the baking sheet and roast until very crisp, 15 to 17 minutes.
3. In a medium pot, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the quinoa and toast for about 1 minute, stirring constantly. Add the broth (or water) and bring to a simmer. Simmer until the quinoa is tender and has absorbed all the liquid. Season with salt and pepper. Set aside.
4. In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. In a medium bowl, toss the shrimp with the hot sauce, cumin and coriander; season with salt and pepper. Add the shrimp to the skillet and sauté until fully cooked, 4 to 5 minutes.
5. Divide the quinoa among the four bowls and top with a quarter of the kale and shrimp. Top each bowl with a quarter of the avocado and watermelon radish slices. Serve immediately.

I decided to food prep these spaghetti squash early for tonight’s dinner . They’ve been sitting around for some time now and became quite speckled on the outer skin . I didn’t want to cut them open late in the day only to find they might not have been okay inside . 883 calories for tonights dinner and ideally I wanted it to be around 600! I thought I had a @slimmingworld curry in the freezer and I didn’t 😭  I ended up running to Tesco (at least I got some added steps in 🤣) and grabbed the lowest calorie curry I could find! 539 calories later, but to be fair that includes the rice too! 
I made onion bhajis this afternoon too and they were amazing 😍😋 60 calories each from @pinchofnom ! I had 4 of them so that was 240 calories 😂 I also had 20g of mini poppadums 104 calories... safe to say I am now stuffed! 
All and all I’ve ended the day within my calorie limit! ✅resistant starch content decreases
✅tastes sweeter - resistant starch turns into sugar
✅gets digested easier and quicker (causing a spike in the blood sugar)
✅some of the micronutrient levels decrease - happens with all produce to some degree once harvested
✅antioxidant levels increase

For babies and toddlers, really green #bananas may be too hard on their little tummies and can cause or make pre-existing constipation worse.

they are a great source of prebiotics though (check out my previous post). I purchase unripe banana and start offering it to Caleb when it is predominately yellow with a slight hint of green (as pictured). Yellow ones disappear ever so quickly around here, and the brown ones get used for baking 👍.

⏰if you want to speed up the ripening process, place in a brown paper bag. if you want to slow it down then place in the refrigerator. The peel will turn brown but the inner flesh will be just fine.
